TRIASPOLITIKA.ID – Nausea that doesn’t go away can be very limiting and interfere with your activities. What, anyway, causes this condition?

It’s not only stomach pain that can interfere with activities, nausea is just as bad. I’ve tried drinking warm sweet tea and rubbing eucalyptus oil into the solar plexus, but the nausea still doesn’t go away. What caused it?

according to dr. Nitish Basant Adnani, BmedSc, MSc, from KlikDokter, complaints of nausea and vomiting can be caused by various things. “However, the most common cause is due to stomach disease, namely increased stomach acid,” he said.

On the other hand, reported by Healthline, nausea is not only caused by digestive disorders, but there are also factors outside of that, for example, anxiety disorders. The following will explain more about the causes of nausea that does not go away.

1. GERD

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a condition when the muscles between the esophagus and stomach meet become weak, causing stomach acid or stomach contents to rise into the esophagus.

Symptoms of GERD, among others:

Pain in the chest or upper abdomen
Persistent cough or shortness of breath
Sour or bitter taste in the back of the mouth
Bad breath
Difficult to swallow
Nauseous vomit
Several factors can increase the risk of GERD, namely obesity, smoking, and consumption of certain drugs.

2. Pancreatitis

Pancreatitis is divided into two types, namely acute pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis. Acute pancreatitis is an inflammation of the organ that produces enzymes that help digest proteins, fats, carbohydrates and sugar (glucose) that occurs quickly.

Meanwhile, chronic pancreas is an inflammation of the pancreas that does not improve and gets worse over time, so that it can cause permanent damage. In addition to nausea that doesn’t go away, people with pancreatitis usually also experience:

Unintentional weight loss
Oily stools
Fever
Upper stomach pain that can radiate to the back, and the pain will get worse after eating

3. Gastroparesis

Gastroparesis is a condition that affects the spontaneous movement of the muscles in the stomach. In healthy people, strong muscle contractions can support the passage of food through the digestive tract. However, in people with gastroparesis, the rate of movement of the stomach decreases or does not occur at all, thus inhibiting gastric emptying.

“Some of the signs and symptoms of gastroparesis are nausea, vomiting, feeling full even though you eat little, bloating, and weight loss,” explained dr. Nitish.

4. Hepatitis

Hepatitis is a type of liver inflammation which is divided into five types, namely hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E. All types of hepatitis can cause nausea. Hepatitis A and hepatitis E are usually caused by contaminated food or water. Hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and hepatitis D are usually caused by contact with infected body fluids, such as blood or feces.

In some cases, especially hepatitis A, the condition goes away on its own. However, if left untreated, hepatitis can lead to cirrhosis or liver cancer. In addition, people with hepatitis will also experience jaundice and get tired easily.

5. Anxiety Disorder

Some types of anxiety can last a long time and interfere with daily life. In addition to affecting emotions, anxiety disorders can also cause physical symptoms in the form of constant nausea.

The physical symptoms of anxiety disorders other than nausea are:

Fast breathing rate
Increased heart rate
Nervous
Fatigue
Hard to focus
Get angry easily
Hard to sleep

6. Gastric ulcer

A stomach ulcer or peptic ulcer is an open sore on the lining of the stomach or duodenum. There are several factors that can cause peptic ulcers, namely smoking, stress, genetic factors, and Helicobacter pylori bacteria.

Pain relievers and caffeinated drinks can also cause weakness in the protective mucous lining of the stomach and duodenum, allowing stomach acid to penetrate the layers beneath.

7. Gallbladder Disease

The gallbladder is an organ that releases bile into the small intestine, while bile is a digestive fluid that helps break down fats from food. Gallbladder disease can include infection, gallstones, inflammation, and obstruction.

Apart from nausea, accompanying symptoms usually include pain in the right upper abdomen which can radiate to the lower back, diarrhea and bloating.

To determine whether one of them is the cause of nausea that doesn’t go away, you need to have it checked by a doctor. Therefore, treatment must also be in accordance with the diagnosis. What needs to be remembered, during nausea, don’t eat spicy, sour, strong-smelling foods, and caffeinated drinks so that the nausea doesn’t get worse.

If you experience symptoms or signs of the conditions above, you should immediately check and consult a doctor. You can use the Ask a Doctor feature for an online consultation or Meet a Doctor to check directly at your nearest clinic.
