The use of tampons or obstetrical examinations that use a device to be inserted into the vagina can cause pain. Vaginismus can really interfere with a woman’s sex life and cause her to lose all confidence in having sex.
Sexually transmitted infections
The next cause is infection, such as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and thrush. A serious sexually transmitted disease with several STIs that can cause infertility, blindness or paralysis if left untreated. Chlamydia is an STI that is transmitted during unprotected sex. Other STIs include human papilloma virus (HPV), gonorrhea, genital herpes and syphilis. Other less common STIs, including HIV, trichomoniasis, pubic lice (crabs) or scabies (mites).
Thrush is a common fungal infection that affects most women at some point in their lives. This condition is usually uncomfortable and itchy, but is relatively easy to treat. However, some women who struggle with thrush find it difficult to deal with it.
Vaginal dryness
The third cause of painful sex is vaginal dryness. This condition is often experienced by women who reach menopause. Vaginal dryness can make sex difficult to enjoy, because it lacks lubricant. More than half of the women did not tell their doctor about it.
Certain diseases
Certain diseases can make sex painful, such as fibroids and endometriosis. When you have penetrating endometriosis it can pull or stretch the irrigating tissue causing pain.
Endometriosis is a chronic condition that occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus is found outside the uterus, including the ovaries, fallopian tubes, stomach and bladder. Fibroids are noncancerous growths that can develop in or around the uterus. They are made of muscle and fibrous tissue and can vary in size.
Emotional factor
Emotional factors can also cause sex to cause pain. If you struggle with your mental health and suffer from issues like depression and anxiety, then this can make sex painful.***
