Causes and Symptoms of Hypoparathyroidism, What’s the Harm to Body Health?

Editor: Widi Wahyuning Tyas

TRIBUNBATAM.id – The human body has parathyroid glands which play a role in producing parathyroid hormone.

This hormone works to regulate the level of calcium in the blood.

The parathyroid glands are located in the neck, just behind the thyroid gland.

There are a total of 4 small, pea-sized glands that belong to the parathyroid glands.

In carrying out its role, the parathyroid glands must produce sufficient parathyroid hormone for the body’s needs.

However, under certain conditions, the amount of hormone produced is very small.

This condition is known as hypoparathyroid.

Hypoparathyroidism is a rare condition when the parathyroid glands in the body produce only a small amount of parathyroid hormone.

This condition causes electrolyte disturbances in the form of low calcium levels (hypocalcemia) and high levels of phosphate (hyperphosphatemia).
