It’s no secret that, along with the high price, one of the factors holding people back from switching to electric vehicles is their short range on a single charge. The range of 200, 300 and 400 kilometers, which in real conditions often does not even reach as much as presented in the technical documents, is not liked by the buyer, but cars with long-term batteries for 800 and more kilometers for 100 and not more thousands of euros in everyone’s pocket.
CATL is the world’s largest battery manufacturer, so there is no reason not to believe their announcement at the Beijing Auto Show that the company has “succeeded in significant progress”. According to a company spokesperson, CATL has developed a new Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, the first of its kind that provides a range of over 1,000 kilometers. The production of LFP batteries is slightly more environmentally friendly than the production of lithium-ion batteries, which are mainly used in electric cars, and is also cheaper due to more readily available raw materials.
The new battery is a product from the Shenxing family called Shenxing Plus. Shenxing’s standard battery provides a range of 700 km, it is already installed in four models, and by the end of 2024 it will be used in 50 more When CATL introduces the new Shenxing Plus battery in one of the series of yet unknown electric cars.
