The president of Grand Reims was cited third in protocol order this Thursday, January 11. A nomination made official the same day as the wishes of the mayor of Reims, Arnaud Robinet. At 7:15 p.m., while Arnaud Robinet finishes his vows to the Rémois, Catherine Vautrin leaves to lock herself in her office. 31 minutes later, at 7:46 p.m., the secretary general of the Élysée, Alexis Kohler announced the new government: “On the proposal of the Prime Minister, the President of the Republic appointed (…) Madame Catherine Vautrin, Minister of Labor, Health and Solidarity.“At the same time, in front of the closed doors of Catherine Vautrin’s office, one of her relatives admitted to journalists: “It takes him a little time to recover.“
At 8:03 p.m., Catherine Vautrin leaves her office: “I am particularly honored by the decision taken by the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister. Now, just one goal: get to work.“The task begins tomorrow, Friday January 12, its first Council of Ministers within the Attal government starts at 11 a.m..
Among the projects awaiting her, Catherine Vautrin says she wants to focus on: “Everyday topics. I don’t forget the seniors as well as our children, the toddlers; especially the first 1,000 days which are very important.“She also takes stock of her ministry with expanded skills:”All this obliges me. My commitment is to give the best.“
What are the consequences for its other functions?
Before arriving in government, Catherine Vautrin held two positions: president of Grand Reims and president of ANRU (National Agency for Urban Renovation). For this second function, the minister is clear: “It is obvious that I will have to leave the ANRU. I also have a thought for all those who make it up, in particular the elected officials.“The presidency of the ANRU being an appointment by decree of the President of the Republic, Catherine Vautrin is obliged to leave her place, because she cannot combine two administrative functions.
Concerning Greater Reims, the rule of non-cumulative mandates does not apply. Despite everything, the Élysée issued a rule according to which an appointed minister must resign from his local mandate. Catherine Vautrin did not dwell on this point: “Let us land.“But she confides:”I never leave Reims.”
