Beijing, Sep 3 (EFE).- Hong Kong airline Cathay Pacific on Wednesday cancelled another 22 flights due to a fault in an engine component discovered in its fleet of Airbus A350s, bringing the number of cancellations this week to 90.
The airline announced the cancellation of 22 flights between Thursday and Saturday. So far, Cathay had cancelled 48 flights on Tuesday and 20 on Wednesday, according to the South China Morning Post.
On Tuesday, Cathay said engine components on 15 of its Airbus A350 fleet, which use a Rolls-Royce XWB-9 engine, needed replacement following an inspection of 48 aircraft following a fault detected in flight.
According to the company, six of the planes have already been repaired and the remaining nine will resume operations on Saturday.
The company launched an investigation after flight CX383 bound for Zurich returned to Hong Kong that morning about 75 minutes after takeoff.
The A350 aircraft’s engines are manufactured by Rolls-Royce. Cathay first deployed this model in 2016.
According to the airline, this is the first time that this component has suffered a failure of this type on this model anywhere in the world.
Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines are among the airlines operating fleets of the Airbus A350. EFE
