Catering contracts cut: No alliance for life

MnchenGermany’s largest insurance group is pulling the emergency brake: Since September, Allianz has been terminating the relevant contract for all companies that have taken out so-called business closure insurance with it. All sectors are affected. “But at the same time we offer that you can take out a new business closure insurance”, says Allianz spokesman Christian Weishuber from AZ.

However: pandemics are explicitly excluded here. The reason: “An insurance company lives from the fact that many pay in so that a few who have a damage can then get it reimbursed,” says Weishuber. However, if all policyholders suffer damage at the same time, this can no longer be shown.

The next bad news for troubled restaurateurs and hoteliers? “In principle, it was foreseeable that something like this would happen,” says the Bavarian Dehoga President Angela Inselkammer to the AZ. The pandemic could not have been foreseen for anyone – and was therefore not planned for anyone.

It is all the more important to find a solution for the future – because the companies alone cannot shoulder the risk, says Inselkammer. “It is the case that every entrepreneur is liable with the last button on his pants for what he does. Now that we are once again quickly locked for four weeks, the state is taking over it alone, with 75 percent for the smaller ones Companies paid. ” But this can hardly be a permanent solution.

Wirt shows understanding for the alliance

The problem that all entrepreneurs currently share: They can no longer plan for the future. The situation also puts an enormous strain on the Fraunhofer and Oide Wiesn host Beppi Bachmaier. During the conversation with AZ, his phone kept ringing – all reservations being canceled. “At least the phone works,” he says with a good dose of gallows humor. And: “Hope dies last.”

Nevertheless, he shows understanding for the alliance. “I already thought about how it should work in the spring: if there was an Oktoberfest that had to be canceled – and the insurance would have to bear the failure. Perhaps the risk could be broken down into several companies,” says Bachmaier At the Oktoberfest, for example, other participants such as tent builders would be brought on board.

New corona measures: These rules now apply in Munich

Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) believes that there is no alternative to the new corona restrictions.

After the end of the pandemic: Coronavirus also insured

Dehoga is currently counting on further discussions with politicians and insurers. “Our profession includes passion and idealism,” says Inselkammer. “Those affected are very depressed. Now it is important not to lose confidence.”

After all, the coronavirus is basically also insured in the new Allianz policies. However, only as soon as the federal government has declared the pandemic to be over, says spokesman Weishuber – i.e. when there is a reliable vaccine. If a company then had to be temporarily closed because several employees were sick, the insurance would take effect. But as you know, that can still take a while
