Cate Blanchett: We weren’t paid anything for The Lord of the Rings

Australian actress Cate Blanchett, who won two Oscars, said in an interview with the American program Watch What Happens Live that she got “free sandwiches” but that she was not well paid to be the involved in the box office trilogy “The Lord of the Rings”, DPA reported.

“Are you kidding me? No, I wasn’t paid anything,” the actress replied when asked which movie brought her the most money, after the host guessed it was “The Lord of…” it was. Andy Cohen then asks her if she got a percentage of the film’s profits, which has a total box office of nearly $900 million from theater tickets alone. Blanchett, 55, responds that it was not and was not a common practice at the time (2001-2003).

“I wanted to work with the guy who made ‘The Walking Dead,'” she says of her choice to shoot with Peter Jackson. No one was paid.” Blanchett said that women don’t get paid as much as people think.

The actress said she would play the upcoming Lord of the Rings series again if she was asked, because she wanted to work with Andy Serkis. In May, it was announced that Serkis would make a new film about the Lord of the Rings character Am-Gul, with original trilogy director Peter Jackson returning as a producer.

Blanchett played the powerful elven queen Galadriel in Jackson’s film trilogy, which ran from 2001 to 2003, and later starred in the same role in The Hobbit in 2012. Both series are based on fantasy novels by J. RR Tolkien.

The three Lord of the Rings films won a total of 17 Academy Awards, with 11 of them going to the finalist, The Return of the King.
