Ulm / Giessen (cnf). The Gießen 46ers Rackelos said goodbye to the Christmas holidays on Thursday evening with an away defeat in the 2. Basketball Bundesliga ProB (South). In the second duel against the Orange Academy Ulm within a few days, the Mittelhessen – despite 30 points from Johannes Lischka and 27 points from Tim Uhlemann – lost out and had to face the southern German with 92:

102 give up.

OA Ulm – Gießen 46ers Rackelos 102: 92

The home side got off to a better start and – led by their French pointguard and only 18-year-old youngster Marc-Antoine Thibault Loemba (14 points) – quickly took the lead 13-1 (4th). From then on, the rackelos, sometimes more, sometimes less, should only ever see the rear lights of the Ulm Bundesliga reserve. The first quarter break was 34:23 (10th).

At the beginning of the second section, the guests managed a 5-0 run (34:28, 11th), but Ulm was not deterred and in the meantime moved on again (48:33, 16th). On the day before Christmas Eve, the Lahnstädter were able to fall back on the last ailing Montreal Scott, who was on the court for almost 30 minutes (5 points), but this time he wasn’t lucky. With two successfully converted free throws, the Academy said goodbye to the dressing room – at this point Gießen was behind with nine points.

Backlog too high

In the third quarter (26:18), the team led by head coach Patrick Unger had a hard time and after 30 minutes (81:64) they had a high mortgage in mind for the final act. Nevertheless, the Rackelos fought their way back after a run by Uhlemann and important Lischka hits and stalked up to 94:90 (38th). In the crunch time, however, the rancid Ulm kept his concentration, also hit precisely from the free throw line – and thus brought his home success over time.

The Gießen 46ers Rackelos slide down to tenth place in the southern season after their eighth defeat in the twelfth competitive game. The Unger team will be back in action on January 2nd, when the EPG Baskets Koblenz, currently third in the table, are waiting away.

Gießen 46ers Rackelos: Brach 12/2, Ziring 3/1, Maruschka 4, Schneider 6, Uhlemann 27/3, Lischka 30/1, Njie, Rostek 3/1, Scott 5/1, Döntgens, Baumgarten.
