Michigan State Police recently tested the Ford Mustang Mach-E. Ford made the fully electric vehicle available for testing by the Michigan State Police, whose experts tested it between September 18 and 20, 2021 according to strict guidelines and found it to be good. Now it could become an integral part of the hunt for criminals …
The realistic tests included aspects such as acceleration, top speed, braking maneuvers and driving characteristics in any chases. Michigan State Police is one of only two law enforcement agencies in the United States that annually test new police vehicles and publish the results for government use across the country. “The fact that the Mustang Mach-E has passed the Michigan State Police’s tough test shows that Ford is capable of building robust electric vehicles that can handle even the toughest of jobs.”says Ted Cannis, CEO of Ford Pro.
With 487 hp on the hunt for criminals
As can be seen in the Michigan State Police picture, this is the GT version of the Mustang Mach-E. The sporty model has also been available in Germany since the beginning of July this year and is already configurable. Two powerful electric motors, standard all-wheel drive, the adaptive MagneRide chassis and high-performance brakes from Brembo make the GT an electric performance Mustang. In addition, Ford donated the GT version a special calibration of the drive train: It allocates a greater proportion of the engine torque to the rear wheels than the other Mach-E all-wheel drive versions – supported by specially developed tires that are supposed to bring the extreme torque to the road.
The Mustang Mach-E GT is the brand’s most powerful electric production model to date. Two AC motors develop a combined output of 358 kW (487 hp) and a torque of 860 Nm – almost 15 percent more than the super sports car Ford GT. The “Extended Range” battery of the Mustang Mach-E GT has a usable capacity of 88 kilowatt hours (kWh) – this corresponds to a gross capacity of 98.7 kWh – and provides up to 500 kilometers in the combined WLTP cycle. The electric crossover SUV should be able to charge enough energy for a further 99 kilometers in just ten minutes at a fast charging station with a charging capacity of up to 150 kW. It would only take 45 minutes for the battery to be charged from ten to 80 percent.
Equipment details such as sports seats from Ford Performance, light alloy wheels in the standard 20-inch format, the special colors “Cyber Orange” or “Atoll Blue Metallic” as well as special design elements set the Mustang Mach-E GT apart from the more “civil” Mach-E Versions also optically. The modifications emphasize the sporty appearance of the crossover SUV while maintaining the unmistakable Ford Mustang characteristics. They should identify the Mustang Mach-E as a close relative of what it claims is the world’s best-selling sports car. In addition, there is the new “Untamed extended” driving mode, which is only approved for use on the racetrack. With it, the power of the drive train for driving in the limit range can be more finely dosed, and the traction and stability control are also adjusted accordingly. This pays off for the driver through constant lap times and a high experience factor.

Detailed results of the police test will be published on the US law enforcement website later this fall.
