Edgar Davids has to leave the field at the Portuguese third division SC Olhanense seven months after his appointment.
The former player of Ajax, Juventus and the Dutch national team, among others, was appointed in January to guide the club to a new competition to be formed. This did not work, so that the club will play at the fourth level of Portugal next season.
Davids, who was shown red in the first game he was on the bench, won eight of the nineteen games.
Catastrophic
A split between Davids and Olhanense had been in the air for a while. In June, President Luis Torres wrote on Facebook a brief to the fans, in which he calls the appointment of Davids “catastrophic” in the sporting field. According to Torres, the fact that you were a good football player does not mean that you are also a suitable trainer.
The reaction on the club website is a bit more neutral. “We wish him all the success in the world on his next project on a sporting and personal level.”
