Catalonia: The Spanish State believes it has defeated the separatists

The Catalan Socialist Federation, allied with the Spanish Socialist Party of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, came out on top and, after negotiations with two minority parties, took power. Here is the Generalitat led by assimilationists as they would say in the Antilles. Except that this result is the fruit of a fierce repression of the independence movement when he was in charge of the autonomous region and he had organized, in 2017, a referendum on independence which had seen the “YES” win by 67% of the votes. The pro-independence president of the Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont, He and his government were then forced to take refuge in Belgium, where they have been for 7 years.

Since then, the repression against the Catalan independence movement has never stopped.

Until it was weakened and then led to its electoral collapse, which allowed the Catalan Federation of the Spanish Socialist Party to come out on top (although without a majority) in the legislative elections. To obtain a majority, the assimilationists had to form an alliance with two minority pro-independence parties called “moderate”. Except that the socialists were forced to make a big concession: The Generalitat will now have full control over the taxes collected in its territory. This was not the case before this agreement.

And it is a time bomb for both the Catalan socialists and the Spanish state!

For what ?

Because although colonized, Catalonia is the richest region in all of Spain. No Catalan emigrates to other regions of the country to look for work while thousands of Andalusians, Extremadurans, Galicians etc. emigrate to the Catalan El Dorado every year. Not to mention the Maghreb and South American immigrants!

Inevitably, the governments that will succeed one another at the head of the Generalitat will eventually realize that with all the taxes they collect on the one hand and the aid from the European Community on the other, Catalonia will have no reason not to assume its full sovereignty.

NB. Question: has the demand for tax control ever figured in the program of any West Indian autonomist or independence party? Of course, France is a Jacobin country and not decentralized/regionalized like Spain, but that does not prevent such a demand from having very well figured in the program of said parties. Instead of thinking about concrete economic questions, we prefer to demonize the White, the “Metro”, the “Zoreille” etc…, which is so much easier. And so stupid too since the Catalans are White and Christian just like the Spanish and yet they no longer want to live in the same country as the latter or to be forced to use the Castilian language.
