Catalonia maintains the downward trend of covid two weeks after the elections

Just two weeks ago, Catalonia went to the polls on an election day marked by anti-virus security measures. They were elections with a notorious drop in turnout – only 53.56% of voters voted – due to, among other causes, the fear of being infected in the queues. Today, 14 days later, the Salut data reveal that the downward trend of the coronavirus in Catalonia continues its rhythm, without having been altered by the 14-F.

According to the data published this Sunday by the Ministry of Health, there is a decrease in most of the indicators. The speed of spread, the famous Rt number, drops two hundredths and stands at 1. This means that currently each infected person is infecting only one person on average.

Catalunya opens the shopping centers from Monday

Starting this Monday, taking advantage of the improvement in epidemiological data, Catalonia will slightly relax the restrictions. Most of the anticovid measures have been extended for seven more days, but the great news is that shopping centers will be able to open from Monday to Friday as long as they limit their capacity to 30%.

In the sports field, it will be allowed to exceed six people for group activities in outdoor and closed spaces that meet the ventilation conditions, while the swimming pools may reach a capacity of 50%. And in education, school students are allowed to travel outside their region and spend the night outside – maintaining the bubble groups.

The report of the Public Health Agency of the Generalitat highlights that “the progression of the decline in the pandemic curve in this third wave, which is advancing at a very slow pace, forces us to act with great caution”.

The new measures are considered “proportionate, appropriate, necessary and justified” and are intended to minimize mobility and social interactions.

Other measures, such as the curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., the opening hours of the hotel industry, the closing of shops on weekends and the district confinement, are maintained.
