Pere Aragonès is a character who in the public gallery remembers the best Jordi Pujol (let no one be offended), although with fewer metaphors. I will explain: it is pedagogical and pragmatic. And he introduces examples of companies or populations he has visited to reinforce his theses. Aragonés is delighted to preside over the Generalitat. Neither does the position as Quim Torra confuse him, nor does it condition him as Carles Puigdemont. He has not arrived in office at the best of times, but the good times are a thing of the past and it is not clear that in the short term they will have to return.
The Catalan president gave a talk at Casa Seat, invited by Sebap i The vanguard. We must be grateful that much of the intervention was not only to explain his proposal for the economic and social recovery of Catalonia, but also to strengthen collective self-esteem. His thesis is that Catalans are very self-demanding and, at times, this leads them to flog themselves. He also invited citizens to think big. And he was in favor of giving the country (Catalonia) the support it needs. He also encouraged the reactivation of the entrepreneurial spirit of citizens to create wealth so that they can redistribute it so that no one gets in the way. It was a Keynesian discourse, with a resilient, sustainable economic proposal, open to the world, where private initiative will have the support of the public sector. In short, its priority will be to defend the welfare state and eliminate inequalities. I’m not clear that this is exactly the model that the CUP aspires to (its vote on budgets will be the proof of the new), but three quarters of Catalan society.
Aragonese thinks that there is an excessive degree of self-exigency
The only thing, however, is that at this point the discourse entered the melancholy loop of the Catalan republic, the referendum and the amnesty. Legitimate aspirations, but in part. Surely, this is what an ERC leader was expected to say as a climax. This reference is what Josep Martí described as “lubricant of the pro-independence engine” in an article.
