Monique, the cat who went viral earlier this year because nobody came to her birthday party, has found a new home.

Monique had been in the animal shelter ‘Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’ for 130 days, but there was interest in adopting the cat. That’s why the staff organized a birthday party for her second birthday in February. Unfortunately no one showed up for that either.
Although that turned out to be a lucky accident: Monique went viral, hundreds of thousands shared her story. “Over the years, our cats have appeared in the media more often or went viral on the internet, but never before has an animal become as famous worldwide as Monique,” said Lindsey Quinlan of the animal shelter. “We were very moved by the number of people from around the world who wanted to give her a new home. This shows that many people understand that animals from a shelter are special and deserve a second chance at happiness. “
The fairytale now also has a happy ending: the shelter reports that Monique has found a new owner. A man from Lewisham, south of London, was the lucky one. “We got to know each other quickly because of the corona pandemic”, owner Adnan tells British tabloid The Mirror. “We have been dependent on each other since March. She talks to me a lot, she follows me through the house, indicates with her paw if she wants to be scratched. And when she wants to be hugged, she pushes my leg with her head. Although she can get bossy if she wants to eat. ”
