Cat S62 Pro smartphone gets improved heat camera and costs 649 euros – Tablets and phones – News

The British company Bullit Group has presented the Cat S62 Pro, one rugged smartphone with heat camera. Compared to the S61, the new phone has an improved FLIR heat camera, but no air quality meter or laser meter.

Of Cat S62 Pro comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, which is clocked at maximum 2.0GHz, 6GB memory and 128GB storage. Optionally, the storage can be expanded with a micro-SD card. Bullit acknowledges that the three year old Snapdragon 660 is a striking choice, but says it has chosen because Qualcomm ‘will continue to support it for a long time’. Bullit claims that it can promise three years of security updates and an upgrade to Android version 11 through these soc. The S62 Pro comes with Android 10 as standard.

As a heat camera, the S62 Pro gets the FLIR Lepton 3.5 sensor. This gives an image of 1440×1080 pixels, where the S61 still had a heat camera resolution of 1280×720 pixels. Bullit claims that the camera has a range of -20 to 400 degrees Celsius and can recognize a heat source thirty meters away. The user must be able to recognize the difference between humans and animals at twenty meters. The camera has a deviation of 5 degrees Celsius, but can measure temperature differences well, according to Bullit. By comparing these temperature differences, the Cat S62 Pro according to Bullit can be used for triage purposes, for example.

The screen is a 5.7 “LCD with a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels and is protected with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The phone maker deliberately chose not to use an OLED screen, because that is more difficult to protect against fall damage. Bullit emphasizes the strength of the S62 Pro, which is IP68 and Mil-Spec-810G certified, which means that the phone is, for example, dustproof and has to survive a drop of 1.8 meters on a steel plate. with soap, alcohol or bleach.

The battery of the phone has a capacity of 4000mAh and is not interchangeable. Regarding regular cameras, the Cat S62 Pro has a 12-megapixel sensor on the back of Sony and an 8-megapixel camera on the front. Bullit says it has adapted the camera software, which makes it easier to switch the image between the thermal camera and the regular camera, for example.

On the back of the device is a fingerprint scanner, on the side there is an adjustable, yellow button. The phone measures 158.5×76.7×11.9mm and weighs 248 grams. For charging, the phone uses a USB-C connection, which supports Quick Charge 4. The phone will be available as a single and dual sim.

Where the S61 still came with an air quality meter and laser meter, that is not the case with the S62 Pro. Bullit claims that buyers hardly needed those features. The Cat S62 Pro costs 649 euros and should be available in the coming weeks.
