The new college of Lameilhé, under construction, will open at the beginning of the next school year and will welcome the students of the current college of the Cedars which, for its part, will therefore close its doors. But how will he be baptized? It is next week that the departmental council, which is the contracting authority of this establishment, will choose the name of this future college. But the Department asked the opinion of the first concerned, the students and teachers.
The college life council launched a consultation with students in early May. And it is the name of Thomas Pesquet which was proposed by the students to the board of directors. The name of the famous French astronaut, currently on a mission in the international space station, sounds pretty good for an establishment presented as the college of the future. The teachers also chose this name from elsewhere. The Department had offered him three other names: Marie-Louise Puech-Milhau, born in Castres in 1876 pacifist, feminist and newspaper editor, Émile Combes, politician born in Roquecourbe in 1835, President of the Council and Minister of the Interior and of Cults at the beginning of the 20th century which contributed to the law of separation of churches and state, and Gisèle Halimi, lawyer, feminist activist and politician who died in 2020. But these three proposals of the Department did not weigh heavily against Thomas Pesquet chosen by the majority of the members of the board of directors, which was held a few days ago, with 13 votes out of 4 at the end of the second round. The final choice is now in the hands of the elect.
