Every Monday afternoon at the Espace Seniors de la Platé, a workshop rhymes with knitting, conviviality and solidarity!
Supervised by Claire Breil-Barrabes, a group of about twenty women find themselves with a first goal… to knit for Hôpital Sourire, an association whose head office is located in Toulouse. Association supported by Le CHU de Toulouse and the Banque Populaire, and which works “to bring well-being to children and people weakened by the ordeal of the disease”.
Last Monday at La Platé, Jean-Michel Régis, head of the Castres branch of Hôpital Sourire, assisted by Andrée, his wife, came to meet the group of knitters to recover the fruit of their work: 65 articles to the attention of the maternity ward of the Pays d’Autan hospital; blankets, sleeping bags, bras, cardigans, hats… with checkerboards, two-tone, elaborate stitches, bobbles (small knitted balls in relief), Tunisian crochet “of which Monique is the queen”, says Claire… etc. “The Floriane haberdashery is the official wool supplier”.
Claire knits with all these little people and the exchanges are going well!
In short, a real investment on the part of everyone to spoil the babies in the hospital and contribute to participating in this chain of solidarity and benevolence.
On All Saints’ Day or even at Christmas, batches shaped by the little hands of La Platé have already taken the direction of the hospital. Jean-Michel Régis explains that the items are given to the nurses who hang them on wires to be picked up by the parents of the toddlers. He adds that the latter often leave a note of thanks for the attention of the knitters and the “Hospital Sourire” association.
A generous approach on the part of the knitters as well as that of Hôpital Sourire!
