Castres. Indian cinema in the spotlight at the Lido and at the University for All

India is in the spotlight at Castres with a conference led by specialist Jitka De Préval at the University for All and a cycle of 3 films at the Lido de Castres organized by the Cinglés du Cinéma India is the leading producer of cinema in the world with approximately 1,000 films produced each year. And yet it is one of the least known cinemas of the French. Aside from that ? In partnership with L’Université Pour Tous, Les Cinglés du Cinéma have invited a great specialist in Indian cinema, Jitka de Preval, to Castres. She will present a conference in two parts, on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 April at 2 p.m., Maison des Associations. In the same week Les Cinglés du Cinéma offer a program of 3 Indian films from very different artistic currents: Le Salon de Musique directed by Satyajit Ray in 1958 is one of the great classics of Benghali cinema. The session on Thursday 21 at 8:30 p.m. will be moderated by Jitka de Préval. Hey Sinamika is a “mainstream” Tamil film of 2022. It is the first achievement of Brinda Master who has made a name for himself in the world of Indian cinema through numerous choreographies. For two and a half hours, the director mixes romance, drama and comedy against a backdrop of dance and music. The film will be screened in a single session on Sunday 24 at 5 p.m. A whole night without knowing, is a documentary in English and Hindi, directed in 2020 by the young director Payal Kapadia, who studied in Mumbai (Bombay) where she now works. His B & W film takes us into the fears and desires of a youth in revolt, in love with freedom. The film was awarded the Golden Eye for Best Documentary at Cannes. All these films are in VOSTF.
