The association of retirees from Occitanie (Aroc) Tarn Sud offers you a conference on the history and heritage of the paths of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle which cross the Tarn, presented by Bertrand de Viviés, chief heritage curator honorary, Monday, November 27 at 2:30 p.m. at the Maison des Associations in Castres (room 240).
The Tarn department is in fact crossed by two important routes for the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela: the Arles route to the south which passes through Castres and a junction of the Puy route to the west, passing by Gaillac and Rabastens.
These thousand-year-old routes have attracted crowds for centuries and connected populations from all over Europe with local populations.
This phenomenon, which has experienced renewed interest in recent decades, has taken new forms and these Jacquaire routes have been declared by the Council of Europe: the first European cultural route. Through art objects, traces on the ground, hospital foundations, archives and various traditions, the speaker will evoke the rich Tarn heritage linked to the paths of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. The conference is free and open to all.
