Castorena and Cervantes give Mexico two more golds in the Paralympics

Arnulfo Castorena gave Mexico its second gold medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The swimmer took the title in the 50m breaststroke SB2 and earned his fourth gold in this event.

Castorena, one of the most experienced members of the national delegation, achieved a time of 59.41 seconds to relegate Ismail Barlov, from Bosnia and Herzegovina (1:02.74), to second place, and Grand Patterson, from Australia (1:04.54), to third place.

Fellow Mexican Cristopher Tronco (1:05.26) took fourth place.

Arnulfo won gold in this event in Athens 2004, Sydney 2000 and Tokyo 2020. With his medal, Mexico reached ten medals in Paris.

Juan Pablo Cervantes wins Mexico’s third gold medal

Juan Pablo Cervantes gave Mexico its second gold medal of the day at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The team was crowned champion in the 100m T54 event at the Stade de France with a time of 13.74 seconds, enough to set an American record in that category.

Cervantes finished just five hundredths of a second ahead of Thailand’s Athiwat Paeng-Nuea, who took silver. Finland’s Leo-Pekka took bronze in 13.86.

In this way, Juan Pablo improved his result from Tokyo 2020, when he won the bronze medal.

So far, Mexico has 11 medals, three of them gold.
