One more stone in the garden of the future A 69 which must connect Castres (Tarn) to Verfeil (Haute-Garonne), near Toulouse. This time, it is Bernard d’Ingrando, owner of the castle of Scopont (Tarn) since 1986, who is “angry”. He does not understand why the highly disputed route of the future 53 km toll motorway is so close to this 15th century building, renovated by the Marquis de Castellane in the 18th century.
“When you obtain the Historic Monument classification, there are responsibilities for the owner but also for the State. If the legislator speaks of respecting a radius of 500 m, it is nothing else, ”he is moved. However, according to him, the highway will pass 180 m from the romantic neo-Gothic pavilion of the estate, also classified as a Historic Monument. The owner fears the noise, pollution and the consequences of the construction of this motorway on the 16 ha park of the castle.
Two prefectural appeals filed
After the ecological arguments, the opponents invoke the defense of heritage. “But the environment is inseparable from heritage”, insists Bernard d’Ingrando. An observation shared by François Linares, president of the Renaissance association of Scopont castle. “This highway will create a hydraulic dam. It is feared that it will kill the wetland within ten years. In the park there is a meadow with Roman hyacinths, a protected plant. »
In the public inquiry, the departmental unit of architecture and heritage of the Tarn also indicated: “The motorway must be shifted more than 500 m from the castle (…). It is necessary to assess the landscape, visual and sound impacts to provide solutions for improving and conserving the quality of this living environment. Bernard d’Ingrando appealed to the prefects of Tarn and Haute-Garonne, “supported by the Archaeological Society of the South of France”, and sent a letter to the Ministry of Culture.
