Blood donations in Castilla y León (added whole blood, plasma and platelets) reached the figure of 55,275 in the first half of 2022, according to the balance made by the Center for Hemotherapy and Hemodonation (Chemcyl).
This amount represents an increase of 1.26% over the 54,585 donations last year in the same period, despite which Chemcyl insists on the call to donate blood due to the growing needs of Sacyl hospitals.
The provincialized balance (including El Bierzo) of the global activity of blood donation between January and June of this year it is as follows: Ávila 2,754; Burgos 9,827; Leon 6,809; El Bierzo 2,598; Palencia 3,392; Salamanca 6,639; Segovia 3,084; Soria 2.643; Valladolid 14,708; and Zamora 2,821.
Las whole blood donations, which represent one of the three ways of donating blood managed by Chemcyl, are carried out either at fixed points (21,930) or in specific collections (29,078). By provinces -including El Bierzo-, the balance of this group of donations -the most common- has been as follows: Ávila 2,485; Burgos 8,982; Leon 6,359; El Bierzo 2,384; Palencia 3,170; Salamanca 6,196; Seville 2,870; Soria 2.407; Valladolid 13,536; And Zamora 2,619.
The second way to donate is plasma apheresis, of which 2,997 have been carried out in the Community as a whole. Apheresis is the process of separating blood components using a machine, and is performed on donors in which blood is centrifuged to obtain individual components (red blood cells, platelets, plasma) for transfusion in patients who need them.
By provinces (including El Bierzo), the plasma apheresis between January and June they have been the following: Ávila 269; Burgos 283; Leon 450; El Bierzo 214; Palencia 222; Salamanca 443; Segovia 214; Syria 236; Valladolid 464; and Zamora 202.
And the third group of donations refers to platelet apheresis, which has added 1,270 in the first half of the year.
In this case, they are carried out in two provinces: 562 in Burgos and 708 in Valladolid.
