The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development, Gerardo Dueñas, and the general director of Agricultural and Livestock Production, Teresa Rodríguez, held a meeting yesterday with the representatives of eleven financial entities to sign the collaboration agreement with which the Board of Castilla y León will subsidize, with 60 million euros, the interest on loans that farmers and ranchers request to alleviate the effects of the drought.
With this measure, as highlighted by the Board, professionals in the agricultural sector will also be able to face the consequences derived from the war in Ukraine and face the next planting campaign with greater liquidity and guarantees.
After the signing, the collaborating entities (Abanca, Banco Santander, BBVA, Caja Rural de Burgos, Caja Rural de Salamanca, Caja Rural de Soria, Caja Rural de Zamora, Cajamar, Caixabank, Ibercaja and Unicaja) will offer their clients – holders of agricultural holdings located in the Community – preferential loans. Thus, interest will be subsidized on loans of up to 60,000 euros maximum per operation, for 5 years with a first year of grace period and 4 of constant repayments, with a variable rate with reference to Euribor plus a differential of 0.5 percent. This bonus will reach one hundred percent for professional farmers and up to 40 percent for the rest.
Farmers and ranchers who intend to access this aid and have not yet done so – the deadline has been open since August 25 – must submit a request for recognition of the right to the Ministry before September 29. Subsequently, the interested party must present the granting of said right to the corresponding collaborating financial entity, a document necessary to be able to subscribe to the credit policy until February 15, 2024.
