CASTELLO. Castellón smiles again in Castalia with a victory against Tenerife (2-1) that puts an end to a streak of five months without winning at home.
The victory, deserved, although hard-fought, was achieved with goals from Raúl Sánchez and Jetro Willems, the latter breaking the tie twenty minutes from the end.
The albinegros were superior overall in a match with a weak first half and many chances in the second.
The locals were able to increase their lead after the intermission, although Tenerife also had a very clear option in the discount that Gonzalo Crettaz providentially saved.
Dick Schreuder made two changes to the starting eleven with the debut of Álex Calatrava in place of Mats Seuntjens and the return of Alberto Jiménez, who took the place of Óscar Gil.
The albinegros started the game dominating possession and getting closer to Tenerife’s goal, although timidly. De Miguel had the first chance to score when he collected a rebound from the visiting goalkeeper, who came out of his goal to clear a through pass to Van den Belt, but he did not take advantage of the empty goal and his shot from outside the area was blocked by a defense (9′). Eight minutes later, Calatrava tried from the edge of the box and his shot went over the crossbar.
The football offered by the two teams was nothing to write home about, but Castellón was the one that made the most effort to generate it. The goal ended up smiling for Schreuder’s team in the 20th minute after a shot by Douglas that a defender took out under the sticks and whose rebound was collected by Raúl Sánchez to finish with a header and beat Salvi Carrasco.
The black and white team was not offering a brilliant performance, but they did find the effectiveness to open the scoring against a Tenerife team that was very sparing in offensive arguments.
As a result of Castellón’s goal, the Canaries had the ball a little more and made some appearances. Thus, Teto tested Crettaz with a shot that was saved without many complications by the Argentine goalkeeper.
Many occasions in the resumption
In the second half, Castellón accentuated its dominance and had chances in the opening quarter of an hour to leave the game practically sealed. Tenerife had made three changes at half-time to try to correct their deficit, but the Castellón team completely subdued them at the start.
Thus, Raúl Sánchez had two options to increase the advantage saved by goalkeeper Salvi Carrasco (46′ and 49′). Later, Calatrava provoked the best intervention from the visiting goalkeeper in a direct free kick (59′).
But Tenerife began to get dangerously close to the Castellón area and warned of a foul very close to the area that Juanmi Cruz hit the crossbar (62′). It was a warning, since a minute later the tie came in a shot at Ángel’s pleasure after taking advantage of a rebound from Crettaz.
Castellón’s reaction to the chicharrero goal was brilliant, as they began to dominate and accumulate clear goals. Raúl Sánchez, the most active of the albinegros in the rival area, had a clamorous chance with a shot that hit the right post first and then the left post (68′).
Two minutes later came the goal that would define the match in a shot from the right by Raúl Sánchez that was finished off by the recently incorporated Jetro Willems to mark his new goal tally as an albinegro.
Castellón did not change its mentality and continued attacking to extend the lead. Suero was able to increase that income by being alone in front of the goalkeeper, but he did not hit his goal.
Castellón’s missed chances gave life to a Tenerife team that in the final minutes went desperately in search of an equalizer, maintaining the suspense until the end. His great option came in a shot that was poisoned after touching a defender and that Crettaz saved brilliantly, on the last chance of the game.
