Castellón breaks Burgos with two goals in the second half and adds its first victory

CASTELLÓ. Castellón has made a statement in its visit to El Plantío with a well-deserved 0-2 victory over Burgos in a match decided with two great goals from Douglas and Calatrava midway through the second half.

Dick Schreuder’s team has once again shown a high level in a Second Division match against a rival that had lost only one game at home last season. The difference with respect to the first two games is that they have had enough finishing ability to convert this good football into a victory, the first one they have achieved this season.

The black and white team had difficulties at the start of the match with the high pressure of Burgos, who was about to steal twice in the Crettaz area when the little ears They tried to get the ball out of play. At the start, the home team had the first chance of the match with a shot from Fer Niño from the edge of the box that went over the crossbar (5′).

From then on, the game belonged to Castellón, who began to control the ball and the game. It was not as dominant as in their first two games, at least in terms of the number of chances, but it was enough to earn them a goal.

The black and whites played with personality and poise in their handling of the ball and had two opportunities in the first half, both very clear and in the same possession. The action began with a gallop by Douglas, who, after getting past three players, shot from the edge of the box and the goalkeeper Cantero stopped the ball. The rebound ended with a shot from outside the area by Mamah that crashed into the crossbar (20′).

Castellón imposed a high pace in ball circulation and made good triangulations in the three-quarter area, a trend that continued for many minutes. Burgos, with its direct play, rarely appeared in Crettaz’s area, although when it did, it was very dangerous. Thus, two minutes before the break, Fer Niño found himself alone against the black and white goalkeeper and the latter won the one-on-one, saving the 1-0.

The goals of Douglas and Calatrava

The second half started off more unevenly, with Burgos looking a bit better, but Castellón not conceding at the back. The direct football of the Castilian team was well countered by the black and whites, who were very solid in all lines.

When the match was more balanced, the talent of Castellón’s forwards came to the fore, breaking the game open with two goals in a five-minute burst. The offensive was started by Douglas Aurelio after finishing perfectly against Cantero after receiving an extraordinary pass from Jesús de Miguel. The Brazilian, who saw how the VAR unfairly disallowed a goal in the first match against Eibar, scored, two weeks after that match, Castellón’s first goal in its new journey in the second division.

But Castellón’s offensive production was not going to end there, as shortly after, the recently incorporated Calatrava scored what is surely one of the best goals of the day in the Second Division after advancing to the edge of the area and making a spectacular shot into the top corner to make it 0-2.

Castellón, as is their custom since Dick Schreuder’s arrival, were not satisfied with this advantage and went for more. Thus, De Miguel could have extended the lead with a shot that was repelled by the post.

Burgos tried to make a final push to try to come back – Crettaz made a great save in stoppage time – but the black and whites could also have scored on the counterattack. In the end, the score was 0-2 to give Castellón its first victory of the season.
