Casper Ruud rejoint Matteo Berrettini in the final

The final of the Swiss Open will oppose its first two seeds. Defending champion, Casper Ruud (ATP 5) will be present at the meeting proposed this Sunday by Matteo Berrettini (ATP 15).

The Norwegian did not encounter any difficulty in qualifying. He won 6-2 6-0 ahead of Albert Ramos-Vinolas (ATP 40), who had been titled in 2019 in Gstaad, but who had to dismiss a match point on Friday evening against the Chilean Nicolas Jarry. Visibly tested, the Spanish left-hander was too easy prey for Casper Ruud.

The Norwegian is only one victory away from a second double on clay in Switzerland. Winner of the Geneva Open in 2021 and 2022, the Roland-Garros finalist will however have to pull out all the stops to achieve the pass of two in the Oberland. He has two wins against two losses in his face-to-face with Matteo Berrettini. Their last confrontation had smiled on the Italian last year in the semi-finals of the Masters 1000 in Madrid.

No chance for Thiem

The day after a big scare in front of Pedro Martinez, Matteo Berrettini (ATP 15) pulled out all the stops in Gstaad. The Roman flew over his semi-final of the Swiss Open against Dominic Thiem (ATP 274).

Matteo Berrettini won 6-1 6-4 ahead of the Austrian to extend two impressive series: 8 wins in 8 matches in Gstaad where he won the title in 2018 and a 12th success in a row on the Circuit. Operated on one hand in the spring, the Italian had taken the titles in Stuttgart and Queen’s when he returned to business before being forced to give up Wimbleon due to his Covid-19 infection.

Against Dominic Thiem, Matteo Berrettini won the first five games of the match. He made his power speak on serve and forehand to leave only crumbs for the Austrian, who had triumphed in Gstaad in 2015.
