Real Madrid Legend Iker Casillas expresses his emotions after learning the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star Lionel Messi win Ballon d’Or 2021.
Casillas expressed disappointment through a tweet on Twitter. In his upload, Casillas assessed that Lionel Messi did not deserve to win the 2021 Ballon d’Or.
As a result of these controversies, Casillas, who has won three Champions League trophies with Los Blancos, admitted that he did not believe in the Ballon d’Or award.
“It’s getting harder and harder for me to believe in football awards,” said Casillas.
Casillas does not dispute Lionel Messi as one of the best players in the world to date. However, to become the winner of the 2021 Ballon d’Or, the former FC Porto goalkeeper did not agree with the final result.
“In my opinion, Messi, he is one of the five best players in history, but you have to start knowing how to catalog who stands out the most after one season,” said Casillas.
Messi won the 2021 Ballon d’Or after collecting 613 points beating Robert Lewandowski (580 points) and Jorginho (460 points). One of the factors that are said to win Messi is the 2021 Copa America title with the Argentine national team.
Meanwhile, Lewandowski has the capital as a goal machine for Bayern Munich and won the German League with FC Hollywood. Meanwhile, Jorginho, apart from helping Chelsea win the Champions League, also helped the Italian national team win Euro 2020.

The 2021 trophy will be Messi’s seventh Ballon d’Or in his playing career, with six of those won with Barcelona. Apart from 2021, Messi won the Ballon d’Or in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2019.
Messi’s closest competitor in collecting the Ballon d’Or trophy is Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo, who won five trophies in 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017.
