Cashback, bug in the system: how to get a refund without purchases

A Cashback system defect would allow you to receive refunds without actually making any purchase. This “bug” would have been discovered by the transmission on Channel 5 “Striscia la Notizia”, which through its correspondent Stefania Petyx would have demonstrated the possibility of being able to circumvent the software for reimbursement on electronic payments.

Cashback, refund without purchase: the flaws in the system

In a service aired, the satirical Tg lists at least two ways to circumvent the effective execution of the monetary transaction. The first stratagem uncovered by the Canale 5 correspondent would simply be the return of the product.

According to the test tested by Petyx, that would be enough make the purchase of any good and bring it back asking for a return, that the amount of 10% provided by cashback it would still be credited.

The expedient would have been tested several times by Striscia la Notizia, first in a clothing store, then in a department store and finally also in the supermarket, and every time the refund would be recognized.

Another clever way to get around the system would be the money transfer from a credit card to a postepay, by making a simple top-up. Also in this case, without any sale and only thanks to a passage of money from one card to another, the accomplice of “Striscia” would have received a reimbursement for which he was not entitled.

How to get double cashback at 20%: the procedure

But these are not the only flaws that emerged from the launch of the “state cashback” on January 1st. The editorial staff of QuiFinanza has in fact verified a way to double the reimbursement e receive 20% of the amount spent.

The initiative provides for a credit for all payments made by consumers, by credit card at “physical” merchants. Not just shops and supermarkets: the 10% refund is also recognized on car tax, medical examinations and the payment of fines.

However, there is a way to multiply this percentage by two. In large supermarkets it is possible “disposable” debit cards with pre-loaded credit and belonging to the VISA or Mastercard circuit, usually with denominations of 25 euros, 50 euros or 100 euros. Unlike other debit cards, these are not linked to any account and, above all, they cannot be recharged: once the credit is exhausted, they can also be thrown away.

Buying one of these prepaid debit cards at entitles you to 10% cashback, provided of course you pay the bill with a card registered on the IO app. The one just purchased, however, is in effect an electronic payment card, compatible with the operating system of the state Cashback. By registering it in your profile, therefore, it would be possible to obtain a 10% cashback also on the credit present within it. In this way, the cashback would be doubled.
