He has legendary status among the viewers of “Bares for Rares”: dealer Walter Lehnertz. But what is actually behind his nickname 80-Euro-Waldi?

The fans of “Bares for Rares” can be sure of one thing. When dealer Walter “Waldi” Lehnertz (55) likes an item on offer, there inevitably comes a moment when he makes his cult offer. “I’ll start with 80 euros,” it says in the best Eifeler Platt.

In the meantime, he has long since become a living legend among the viewers of the ZDF flea show (Monday to Friday from 3:05 p.m.). Not only they call him only 80-Euro-Waldi!

What hardly anyone knew until now: The “Bares for Rares” junk dealer has protected this name – and even had it written on his official identity card!

“Bares for Rares”: Dealer gets tip from lawyer – “I went straight to the office”

“In my identity card, as an artist name: 80 euros Waldi! Only they don’t do the €, they advertised the euro,” he says in a short clip on the “Bares for Rares” Instagram page. How did this happen? It all started with a tip from a lawyer.

Waldi explains further: “I had it protected. My lawyer said: If you get that on your ID card, it’s protected for life. So I went straight to the office and said: ‘Now I want to know.'”

But today he is a bit annoyed that he chose exactly this sum. Because it was actually a coincidence that the 80 euros became his trademark.

Waldi tells the short version: “Of course they were my first commandment. It wasn’t well received, so I made it out of frankness and at some point it became really socially acceptable – and now it’s my brand name.” The – for him – somewhat sad thing about it: “It could have been 40 euros. Would have been better too! I have to buy a lot of things for 80 euros that aren’t worth 30 euros.” But he now has legendary status! (sku)
