Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Singapore announced that it will re-open permits for visitors who have been vaccinated (Vaccinated Travel Lane / VTL) from and to 8 other countries.
The announcement comes after Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong estimated it would take between three and six months to lead a “new normal” life amid Covid-19.
Singapore’s Ministry of Transport said Singapore gave permits to Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, the UK and the US. Sebumny, Singapore has also implemented a similar rule with Germany and Brunei in September.
“All 8 countries are already open to tourists from Singapore. So VTL will restore quarantine -free two -way travel between Singapore and them,” Communications Minister S Iswaran said, as quoted by CNBC.com, Saturday (9/10/2021).
While this policy allows quarantine-free travel for those who are vaccinated, travelers will still have to take a Covid-19 test to ensure they are not infected with the virus before entering the country.
Registration will open on Tuesday, and travelers from eligible countries will be able to enter Singapore from 19 October.
In a national address on Saturday, Singapore’s leader Lee explained when a “new normal” could occur.
How do we know when we enter the new normal? It will happen when we can loosen the restrictions, having [langkah-langkah manajemen yang aman] mild, and cases remain stable — maybe hundreds a day, but not growing,” Lee said.
“When our hospitals can return to normal operations, when we can go back to doing the things we used to do, and see people again without worrying or feeling weird.” he added.
He urged Singaporeans not to be paralyzed by fear.
“Sooner or later, each of us will meet the virus – this means all parents will meet the virus too.” said Lee.
