Cases of COVID, Acute Respiratory Infections (ARIs) and pneumonia have increased in the last week, according to the Departmental Health Service (SEDES).
The head of Epidemiology at SEDES, Rubén Castillo, stated that between August 18 and 24, 37 new cases of COVID were reported, which represents an increase of 19%; that is, six more cases, compared to the previous week.
Cercado leads the list of municipalities with 28 cases. It is followed by Quillacollo, with five; Mizque, with two; and Colcapirhua and Vinto with one, respectively.
“The most affected people continue to be the elderly and those who have not received any vaccine doses,” Castillo stressed, expressing his concern since, on average, there is an average of five reported cases of COVID per day.
IRAS
As for respiratory infections, there is also a 4% increase compared to the previous week, totalling 6,492 cases.
Children under five are the most affected, accounting for 31% of the total.
PNEUMONIA
Cases of pneumonia also increased, but by 10%, reaching a total of 398 cases. Similarly, 32% correspond to children under five years of age.
“We still recommend the use of face masks in educational institutions, where it has also been reported in age groups,” Castillo emphasized.
In this regard, the head of Epidemiology reported that two girls aged 4 and 3 are hospitalized in the third level Pediatric Hospital, for “pneumonic symptoms”; however, influenza is still being investigated.
Additionally, a recent case of influenza type B in children was also reported.
