TRIBUNJATENG.COM, SLAWI – Reducing new infections and no more HIV-related deaths and no stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in 2030 are big targets for HIV prevention.
Regent Tegal Umi Azizah, who is also the Chairman of the District AIDS Control Commission (KPA) Tegal said the importance of increasing public acceptance of the status of PLWHA to prevent discrimination or exclusion from the social environment.
So the approach to socialization about HIV/AIDS, especially regarding its transmission, needs to be intensified and expanded.
This is in line with the theme of World AIDS Day 2021, namely ending AIDS by preventing HIV and providing access for all.
This access, continued Umi, one of which is information, both for the community to prevent stigma and discriminatory treatment and PLWHA themselves to want to undergo therapy.
According to him, not all PLWHA know their status, including therapy that can be given to prevent the virus from being detected or suppress it so that vertical infections do not occur from pregnant women to their fetuses.
“PLWHA must know and be able to accept their status in order to have adequate knowledge about HIV/AIDS so that they can become smart patients. And this is the starting point to improve the quality of life of those infected with HIV,” explained Umi, in a release received by Tribunjateng.com, Tuesday (21/12/2021).
Education to provide an understanding of the disease and the importance of therapy is needed to significantly reduce the transmission of new cases by 2030, including reducing the number of deaths from HIV.
Therapy with antiretroviral (ARV) treatment is very important for people living with HIV to avoid becoming AIDS.
Therapy given regularly can suppress the amount of virus in the blood, so that the virus can be suppressed or no longer detected.
