Mariah Carey is accused of copyright infringement over her Christmas hit All I Want For Christmas is You from 1994. Musician Andy Stone wants to see 20 million dollars from her and from co-writer Walter Afanasieff and record company Sony because he released a Christmas song with exactly the same name five years earlier.
Although the songs sound completely different and have different lyrics, Stone believes that Mariah Carey has abused the uniqueness of his song. In doing so, Carey made “undue profits” and knowingly infringed Stone’s copyright, the indictment states.
