The two upper floors will host the special Alzheimer’s units, while the ground floor, with an outdoor and indoor garden, will host the “Alzheimer Village”, dedicated to welcoming and caring for those who suffers from mild depression.
In total, the new building will take up space approximately 106 guests suffering from cognitive impairment of varying degrees. The spaces at CasAlzheimer have been designed like a home, with the rooms overlooking the outdoor garden, and the living rooms and all other gathering areas facing the central courtyard.
The bedrooms overlook a large corridor designed to be an interior “endless passage” for guests with travel – the very common path among Alzheimer’s patients – a continuous path that ” flowing” between bedrooms and living rooms with furniture selected from the most suitable. awakens guests’ senses, restores psychological well-being and reduces behavioral disorders.
Each room has a special character: old cinemas, indoor winter gardens, worship rooms, virtual trains, snoezelen rooms with multi-sensory beds, multi-purpose gyms, nurseries for doll therapy, soft rooms, living rooms in the style of different times, it is intended to help kitchens and others.
“What can be read between the lines of this project are the core values of a community. The Foundation is an expression of generosity and loyalty typical of the people of Bergamo. We have to take into account that the population has now changed, it has aged, there are new needs and therefore we are asked to reset healthcare because the basic conditions and conditions the users changed. The shortage of workers, doctors and nurses is incredible, we all have to try to create conditions to organize healthcare in a different way, to promote healthcare workers humanely and economically” , said the President of the Department, recognizing the perspective of Fondazione Carisma with respect to the needs of the population.
“CasAlzheimer’s is a source of pride for Bergamo and I think it can represent a model: everything here is designed for the patient. Clinical, rehabilitation, healthcare and architectural skills are effectively integrated in it”, said Mayor Carnevali. “Carisma Foundation is the result of an effective collaboration between public and private, now it is necessary to work to to make the caring work of all healthcare professions attractive”.
