Casablanca – The Minister of Justice, Mohamed Ben Abdelakder, paid a working visit to the Hebrew Chamber of the Civil Court in Casablanca on Wednesday during which he met the judges of the Chamber in order to learn about their proposals and expectations in the prospect of enhancing the role that the Hebrew Chamber plays within the framework of the Moroccan judicial system.
During this visit, which is part of the efforts to strengthen communication meetings with judicial and administrative officials of the various judicial services and the monitoring of the state of the buildings of the Kingdom’s courts, the minister unveiled the new plaque bearing the name of the Hebrew Chamber.
On this occasion, Mr. Ben Abdelkader stressed that the Hebrew judicial system was historically framed by several royal Dahirs, indicating that Morocco constitutes an exception in that the Kingdom is the only Arab country where Moroccan citizens enjoy the Jewish religion. and benefit from their own Hebrew judicial system.
In a press statement on the sidelines of the visit, the minister added that the Hebrew judicial system in the Kingdom has undergone great development and has become specialized in matters of personal status on the basis of the law of Moses, that peace either on him, and the rules of the Talmud.
He also stressed that this service is supported by judges in Casablanca and Tangier who report to the Ministry of Justice, specifying that they play an important role in its management thanks to the services and tasks they perform in the context of justice for the benefit of Moroccans of Jewish faith.
For his part, the President of the Chamber and the Judge-Rabbi, Joseph Israel, who has been a judge in this court since 1987, indicated that this Chamber specializes in the personal status of Moroccans of Jewish faith, in particular marriage, divorce and will.
Morocco, he added, is the only country in the world which has a Hebrew Chamber and where justice is rendered on the basis of the law of Moses for Moroccans of Jewish faith, noting that this situation does not not even exist in European countries.
For his part, the Judge in the Hebrew Chamber, Zakouri Simon, welcomed the visit of the Minister who proves to the whole world the coexistence enjoyed by citizens of different religions in Morocco, noting that “heavenly religions do not differentiate between men and human relations are important ”.
In a similar statement, Judge Rabbi in the Hebrew Chamber, Hazout Israel, for his part expressed his joy at this visit which he considers an honor for the judges, stressing that the credit goes to His Majesty King Mohammed. VI, while adding that the judges of the Hebrew Chamber are mobilized behind the Sovereign.
The minister also paid a visit to the rehabilitation site of the building of the Civil Court of Casablanca, which covers a covered area of more than 19 thousand square meters, and has 10 courtrooms and 245 offices.
The director of equipment and property management at the ministry, Hassan Albari, indicated that this building is of great importance, as it is considered one of the most important historical monuments in the city, in addition it is classified as national heritage in the center of the economic capital of the Kingdom.
According to him, the work in progress in this jurisdiction, which was created between 1916 and 1920, costs the ministry an investment of more than 53 million dirhams, and this within the framework of the projects launched by the Department of Justice for the implementation upgrading and strengthening of its infrastructure, recalling that work on this site has progressed by around 25 pc and concerns in particular the rehabilitation of the building.
