Gradual departure from the use of internal combustion engines and the transition to hybrid, plug-in hybrid or fully electric models. According to its management, Aston Martin, which recently introduced the Valhalla supersport model and is already preparing a plug-in hybrid in the form of a DBX SUV, is in exactly this position.
–
Tobias Moers, CEO of Automotive News Europe, spoke about the future of the traditional British carmaker. Among other things, he said that traditional models such as the DB11 or Vantage await the transition from eight- and twelve-cylinder combustion engines to electric propulsion.
–
“The future of our traditional sports segment must undoubtedly be fully electric,” Moers said, although about half a year ago the majority shareholder and one of the main men of the brand, Lawrence Stroll, said that there would always be people in the world who wanted an internal combustion engine.
–
Aston’s next plans should be clear. By 2025, the company intends to launch its first electric car, with the proviso that an electric SUV should arrive on the market immediately after it. In this segment, after all, electric cars are offered or are about to be offered by a number of other car manufacturers, due to its great popularity.
–
Moers also said that Aston’s electric cars will have a range of about 600 kilometers. The company has previously stated that by 2030, 50% of its supply will be fully electric.
–
Greater cooperation with the German giant Daimler, which owns Mercedes-Benz, should be crucial for Aston Martin. The plug-in hybrid Valhalla has already received a powertrain from AMG, and now there seems to be nothing to stop the two carmakers from working together on purely electric drives. Daimler will provide more information and technology in exchange for a 20% stake in Aston Martin. At present, the Germans own only 2.3% of the company.
–
However, Moers promised in an interview that even if his company’s cars have part of the technology from Mercedes, the British character will not disappear from them. Aston Martin is said to be involved in the development and wants to breathe tradition into electric motors.
