CARTV Crisis: Government Denies Forced Leave to General Director Raquel Fuertes

The Board of Directors of the Aragonese Radio and Television Corporation (CARTV) met urgently today after the Government of Spain denied forced leave to the general director of the Corporation, the journalist Raquel Fuertes, who did have , according to CARTV, his predecessors in office as well as other directors of regional television stations.

After this refusal, Fuertes has decided to leave her position and will return next Monday to her position as a public employee by opposition in the Government Delegation in Aragon, in order not to lose it. The anomalous thing about this situation is that the journalist makes this decision by force since the Ministry of Territorial Policy has denied her request for forced leave to hold a public position, which she requested before accepting the candidacy as general director, and that He assured her that it was a perfectly viable possibility.

“I requested forced leave under article 46.1 of the Workers’ Statute, which recognizes forced leave by appointment to a public position, which makes it impossible to attend work, and in that resolution states that I requested it under article 95.7 of the Collective Agreement. That was not like that,” he said. Likewise, he has announced that he will take legal action to defend his right.

The appointment of Raquel Fuertes as general director of CARTV was approved in the Cortes of Aragon on November 17 without any vote against.

The president of the Board of Directors of CARTV, Antonio Suarez, has assured, for his part, that he knows that “there is a minister, with great weight in Madrid, the Spokesperson, Pilar Alegría, who was informed of the problem and has not done anything absolutely nothing so that it can be resolved through the appropriate channels.

Until the situation is resolved, the Board of Directors has agreed that journalist Ana Jimeno, current CARTV Media Director, will provisionally perform the functions of general management.

Both the CARTV Business Committee and the Association of Journalists of Aragon (APA) have expressed their support for Fuertes and demand equal treatment to that received by their predecessors in office.
