‘It’s a risk. But because Guust Flater is one of the most iconic figures in the Franco-Belgian comics world, we think we have to go big’, says Stéphane Beaujean, editorial director at Dupuis.
“Few people expected that Guust Flater would make a comeback, but now was the time,” said Beaujean. According to him, many comic book heroes disappear into oblivion if they don’t get a sequel.
Canadian comics artist Marc Delafontaine, better known as Delaf, will be responsible for the series. According to comic book fanatics, his style is very similar to that of the original driving force behind Guust Flater, the Belgian cartoonist André Franquin. He died in 1997.
The famous character first appeared in the comics weekly Spirou in 1957. Three years later Guust Flater received his first album, with the sober title Guust† The last album was released in 1996.
The adventures of Guust Flater have been translated into twenty languages. More than thirty million albums have been sold.
