Cartagena’s Ficci Film Festival: A Tribute to Cinema and Culture in Colombia

What a relief to be able to talk about cinema to get rid of this bunch of bad news that bombards our souls. Cartagena, always so generous with Colombia, is preparing for the 63rd edition of its Ficci Film Festival, a further tribute to the god Pelikula, a free event with a social vocation that avoids the claim of exclusivity and, on the contrary, proposes a change in an inclusive, plural way and of views relevant to the growth of human beings, the protection and defense of freedom of opinion. The new vision of the festival hopes to further highlight the talent of emerging filmmakers from Colombia and the rest of the world.

“In our festival we have noticed a great presence of young people, both in the movie theaters and in the desire to be creators. Excited about this pulse that has been growing year after year, we have decided to actively involve young people in multiple initiatives that cross the festival areas,” explains Volt.

The artist chosen to create the official image is Raquel Moreno, 2022 Young Art Award winner and student of Visual Arts at Javeriana, and the presentation of the image represents a fusion between cinema and culture. The poster, for its part, is made up of three elements, based on three key words: cinephilia, industry and academia.

I had the honor of working at the festival for many years, from the presidency to the board, but my job was always to support old Victor, an even-tempered being who never lost his desire for his festival, and did more than once. We risk not doing it, like that time when they closed the doors of the Convention Center and then the members of the board signed a promissory note for the bank to give the money.

This time, the final approved proposal is made up of three posters, each illustrating three festival activities. The visual narrative of the poster captures the essence of the festival, which year after year has become the unmissable event with the best of world cinematography.

I had the golden age of RCN, I had to receive Jack Nicholson, Roman Polanski, Catherine Deneuve, Ugo Tognazzi, Rita Hayworth, and I also had the lean times. But Victor never lost his strength, a true warrior, always with his face up and with a shell of good intentions, and year after year, for 60 times, he managed to hold the oldest festival in America.
