Cartagena de Indias: Government Achievements in Education Scholarships 2020-2023

Cartagena de Indias D., T. and C., December 27, 2023. Within the framework of the “EDUCATION TO TRANSFORM” program, which aims to guarantee strategies to train quality graduates from official educational institutions and contracted enrollment of the District, the Secretary of District Education (e), Alexandra Herrera Puente, provided a complete assessment of the main achievements achieved by the government of Let’s Save Cartagena Together during the 2020-2023 four-year period.

According to Herrera Puente, “among the main achievements achieved by the Higher and Technical Secondary Education Advisory Office, today 432 higher education scholarships were awarded from the Inclusive, Ser Pilo and Bicentenario Funds; event held at the Adolfo Mejía Theater, attended by selected young people who graduated from the Official Educational Institutions and enrolled contract students from the District of Cartagena and their companions.

With these deliveries, the Save Together Cartagena government reached 3,411 young people between 2020 and 2023, which constitutes an important recognition of the merit, effort and commitment that the city’s young people have with their life plans. We hope that they can continue walking the path to make their dreams come true and that they always keep in mind the importance of serving our city. To their families to support and accompany them so that together they can transform their communities into places of opportunity for everyone.”

In this sense, as established in agreement 003 of May 17, 2013, through which the District Council created the fund for granting higher education scholarships, it is stipulated that applicants for forgivable credits must meet the following requirements : i) be a graduate of the Official Educational Institutions of the District of Cartagena, ii) be from socioeconomic stratum 1 or 2 and iii) be registered in Sisbén in categories A, B or C.

In accordance with the operating regulations of each of the funds, in addition to the previous requirements, applicants must meet the following characteristics:

– From the Bicentennial Fund and CERES Alliance, i) having applied the Saber 11 tests, ii) being admitted to a program of an allied Higher Education Institution and iii) successfully completing the level or academic period immediately preceding, for students who enter the second semester onwards and have an average of 3.2.

– To apply for the Inclusive Fund, you must meet the above requirements, in addition to having the certificate of the population group to which you belong (NARP, indigenous, people with disabilities and victims of armed conflict).

– In the case of the Ser Pilo fund, the Educational Institution must apply for the best ICFES score that meets the previous requirements described.

The program for the consolidation of scholarships has positively impacted the population with the greatest conditions of social and economic vulnerability in the city. In this regard, it is necessary to indicate that the District of Cartagena offers opportunities for access and permanence to Higher Education through of the projects: Bicentenario, Ceres, Ser Pilo Va Cartagena and Inclusive Scholarships; which is a clear example of the commitment that the administration has had with the city’s young people, who undoubtedly have academic and motivational skills and a desire to improve.
