Prendes’ victory came against a well-known rival, the Polish Irena Stypulkowska, whom she had already faced in May. This rivalry is becoming one of the most exciting in grappling, although on this occasion there was no sharing of victories: the two titles remained firmly in the hands of the Spanish athlete.
Carlota had to overcome four fights in the modality without GI and another three with him to take first place in both championships. On Friday, she disposed of her first two opponents and in the semi-finals beat the neutral fighter Krupskaia on points. In the final, she faced Stypulkowska again and, with absolute control, forced her to submit with a guillotine, securing her first gold.
The next day, Prendes avoided the qualifying round and made his way directly to the quarterfinals. After winning that fight and also the semifinals by submission, she faced Stypulkowska again in the grand final. In this matchup, Carlota quickly established a six-point lead, although she had to deal with some difficulties towards the end due to two passivities. Despite this, the final score of 6-4 gave him his second gold medal, putting a finishing touch to an outstanding season.
