Jakarta –
Cars under 1,500 cc are reportedly still allowed to fill Pertalite when the restrictions take effect in September. However, the detailed criteria have not been announced by the government.
Meanwhile, cars with engine capacities below 1,500 cc are known to dominate sales of four-wheeled vehicles in the country. The category of cars with capacities below 1,500 cc is quite diverse.
As seen by detikcom in data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), cars under 1,500 cc are inhabited by sedans, LCGCs, Low MPVs, Low SUVs, to hatchbacks.

The selling price of cars under 1,500 cc also varies. Starting from the LCGC segment with a price tag of Rp. 110 million to Rp. 180 million. Then in the Low MPV segment, the average is in the range of IDR 200-300 million. Then the hatchback is also sold at a price in the range similar to the Low MPV.
Not only that, there are also cars with a capacity of under 1,500 cc whose price touches Rp. 900 million. For example, the BMW X1 sDrive 18i F48 A/T. The SUV has an engine capacity of 1,499 cc and is sold starting at Rp. 920 million. Although the specifications are still allowed to buy Pertalite, but in the specification sheet the BMW X1 s Drive 18i F48 A/T has an engine compression ratio of 11:1. That means, the German SUV is suitable for using at least RON 92 fuel in the class of Pertamax, Shell Super and other types.
In addition to the BMW X1, another premium car with an engine capacity of under 1,500 cc is also the MINI Cooper 5-Door. The MINI Cooper 5-Door also has an engine compression ratio of 11:1 which is more suitable for using a minimum of RON 92 fuel. Some MINI models also have engine capacities below 1,500 cc.
Mercedes-Benz also has car models with a capacity of 1,500 cc, such as the GLB 200 Progressive Line. This car has a capacity of 1,332 cc and is priced at IDR 975 million off the road. Mercedes-Benz GLB 200 Progressive Line is known to have an engine compression ratio of 10.6:1 which is also suitable for using Pertamax and other RON 92 fuels.
Then, from September, will the premium cars be allowed to fill Pertalite? Maybe yes, maybe no. If it refers to the engine capacity and there is no change, it is still possible. But when referring to the specifications, you should not. Filling the fuel must be adjusted to the compression ratio. If not, don’t be surprised if your car suddenly drops the engine.
