Carril Rosa, healing for women who overcame breast cancer

More than a year after its start, Carril Rosa, at the Valentín Goméz Farías Sports Unit in Tlaquepaque, has become an important healing space for women who deal with the aftermath of breast cancer, in this case, lymphedema.

Lymphedema is an inflammation in the extremities due to the blockage of the lymphatic vessels that results after mastectomy. In Carril Rosa, affected women receive aquatic rehabilitation, thereby reducing the volume of inflammation and pain and regain their angle of motion.

María began to rehabilitate on January 15, 2020, date from which she has noticed an improvement both emotionally and physically. In 2014 she was operated on for cancer and for six years she took therapy at home, but she did not feel the same impact as now that she submerges her entire body in water.

“They ask me and I tell them that I’m in the best stage of my life right now because we rarely have a second chance, I’m in my second chance and this made me feel alive and enjoy it to the fullest,” she says.

Carril Rosa is not only important for her, but for all those who attend, because shared the same struggle and are in the same healing process.

“Regaining mobility and strength in the arm is very important for us, we feel emotionally alive again.”

Rehabilitation at Carril Rosa is completely free for women proven to have had cancer. More information can be requested at the Valentín Goméz Farías Sports Unit, Tlaquepaque, located in José Clemente Orozco, Lomas de Tlaquepaque neighborhood, or by calling 33 2254 1411.
