Pablo Carreño has debuted in the Open de Australia 2021, first tennis Grand Slam of the year, with an important victory against the Japanese Kei Nishikori after winning 7-5, 7-6 (4) and 6-1.
The Asturian thus becomes the second Spanish to reach the second round Australian Open as he also certified his pass Pedro Martínez, who beat the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka.
Carreño achieved a solid victory
Carreño started the match at a high pace after achieving an early ‘break’ which would be countered in the same way by the Japanese.
The same succession of breaks was repeated, first by the Spanish and followed by that of Nishikori, until Carreño managed to win again from the rest to break the tie and sign up un valuable first set 7-5.
The second set featured serve games achieved with greater solvency, despite the fact that there were two breaks, and the Spaniard was able to put land in between after winning the tiebreaker game.
Nishikori accused the poor preparation With which he counted, after undergoing a strict quarantine as close contact of a positive in one of the affected planes, and suffered a decrease in intensity that Carreño would take advantage of to establish the final 6-2.
Nishikori hadn’t lost in the first round of the Australian Open for 11 years.
