Carowinds’ Fury 325 Roller Coaster Shut Down for Repairs After Cracked Steel Support Pillar Filmed by Visitor

A visitor to the Carowinds amusement park in North Carolina filmed the passage of a ride car at the level of the weakened pillar. The Fury 325 roller coaster was then shut down for repairs.

The US amusement park at Carowinds, near Charlotte in North Carolina, was forced to close its main ride “after park staff noticed a crack at the top of a steel support pillar”, reported sunday the New York Times.

The roller coaster, Fury 325, will remain stationary while crews make repairs, said Courtney McGarry Weber, the venue’s spokesperson. For his part, the spokesperson for the North Carolina Department of Labor, announced Sunday that its office of elevators and entertainment devices was going to the site to investigate this Monday.

Friday, June 30, Jeremy Wagner, who was visiting the park with his family, had filmed a wagon of the attraction as it passed over a pillar with a large crack. Her daughter had just taken her place eight times in the fragile merry-go-round.

“I was trying to film and my hands were shaking because I knew it could quickly become catastrophic,” Jeremy Wagner said, in comments reported by The New York Times.

More fear than harm in the end since no injuries were reported. The father of the family explained that he had given his images to park officials before returning home and learning of the closure of Fury 325. “I am grateful to them for doing this,” he said .

One of North America’s Greatest Attractions

At almost 100 meters high, Fury 325 is one of Carowinds’ main roller coasters. The carousel going up to more than 150 km/h can carry dozens of passengers, according to the park website.

Carowinds calls this attraction, which opened in March 2015, “the longest giga coaster in North America”.
