Caroline van der Plas may have been away from the CDA for a year or so, but she still runs like a Christian Democrat in heart and soul. A beautiful illustration of this was shown on Monday evening at Humberto Tan.
The BBB leader kicked off the broadcast by saying that BBB’s ‘prime ministerial candidate’, Mona Keijzer, who was presented with much fanfare on Friday, was mainly “number two on the parliamentary list”. According to Van der Plas, everyone thinks that Keijzer is the BBB prime ministerial candidate, because of the “headlines” in which the Volendam woman was referred to as such. So the media’s fault, although the BBB forewoman said she didn’t want to blame it – another trick she uses frequently.
All newspapers also reported that Keijzer came in second place on the list of candidates, but according to Van der Plas that nuanced message from BBB did not come across very well.
Could she have played a part in it herself? In July announced the BBB leader that she did not want to be prime minister. In an interview, Van der Plas stated that she did not feel like putting on nice clothes and flying around the world. “Then I have to wear heels, while I can’t walk in heels at all.” That is why she was in talks with another candidate for the premiership. She would reveal that name later.
The announcement followed last week. “BBB presents prime ministerial candidate,” read the headline the invitation which the party sent to journalists. “We know you’ve all been eagerly awaiting this: the bingo cards with names are going around quite a bit. We can now inform you that we will announce the name of our candidate Prime Minister on Friday, September 1.” At the meeting itself stated Van der Plas: “Today is the moment that we announce our prime ministerial candidate.”
A few days later, Van der Plas seems less enthusiastic about Keijzer. Could it have something to do with the fact that Keijzer has not yet read BBB’s election programme?
