“So I just forgot my complete bag with my make-up, deodorant and hairspray”, the flamboyant politician begins when she enters the hospital for another day of internship. “It sounds really stupid: ‘I need my make-up’ – like you’re going to run a fashion show here – but I haven’t gone out without makeup for 40 years. I don’t feel good if I don’t do anything on.”

Fortunately, there is the make-up bag of Rachel Hazes, a great lover of the tanning bed, who has a day off herself. Caroline can start greasing until she has the foundation of André Hazes’ widow in her hands. “Let’s test it out,” she says, somewhat suspiciously. “Oh, no. That’s way too much for me. Sorry Rachel, this is too brown for me.”

Caroline is grateful to Rachel for the make-up products she can use and decides to call her. “I’m in make-up”, she starts the video call overjoyed. With an approving look from Rachel, Caroline can start her shift.

Caroline, who feels better about herself again, immediately shows that she is made for healthcare. For example, she offers a listening ear to an 82-year-old man in the surgery department who has already been hospitalized for the third time. “It was like it was my father. Such a sweet man,” she says of the patient. Her mentor is overjoyed with the politician as an intern. “Caroline is good at talking to patients. Also at showing interest in the patient himself.”

When the older gentleman has to go to the OR, Caroline gets emotional. “There he is now waiting. (…) I would have liked to have grabbed him.” Her mentor sees it all happen. “I think it’s very special to see that (…) it makes Caroline so emotional when she leaves someone behind. That’s a committed feeling that someone has. And it’s a good thing to have,” he says. Fortunately, the operation is going well.
