Carolina Marín finds no opposition in Rachael Darragh and speeds up to the round of 16

Huelva’s Carolina Marín achieved her second victory at the Paris Olympic Games at La Chapelle Arena against Ireland’s Rachael Darragh, whom she easily beat in two sets (21-5 and 21-5), and is accelerating towards the round of 16 of the badminton tournament after overcoming the group stage.

Carolina Marín, 31, played a very comfortable match against Darragh, who from the first moment gave the impression that she could not cope with her rival. With a slow game and hardly any intensity, the Irishwoman let herself go until she ended up totally subdued on the court by the Spaniard, who surely did not expect such an easy match as she found.

Carolina started the match with a drop shot that caught Darragh off guard and was a warning of what was to come later, short points in actions at the net and other long ones down the court in volley plays. That was the tone used by the Spaniard, who finished off her rival in just 28 minutes.

With this victory, the Andalusian player finishes the initial group phase in first place after also beating the Swiss Jenjira Stadelmann 2-0 in her first match.

Carolina Marín, three-time world champion and seven-time European champion, has arrived in Paris as number four in the world and with the firm objective of repeating the gold she won in Rio 2016 after being unable to participate in Tokyo 2020 due to injury.
