Carolina Herrera Holds First Fashion Show Outside of New York in Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, Jun 1 (EFE).- With exclusively Brazilian models and on a stage with a breathtaking view, the American firm Carolina Herrera held its first fashion show outside of New York this Thursday in Rio de Janeiro, with a collection inspired by the energy and joy of Rio.

Although the rain tried to dampen the presentation, the parade went ahead but without an audience around, since the attendees, who included not only carioca personalities but from all over Brazil, had to take shelter to avoid getting wet and for safety.

The deluge that fell before the presentation flooded a good part of the stage and even a couple of the models ended up on the floor during the show, since the catwalk was arranged outdoors, in an exclusive hotel in Santa Teresa, a picturesque neighborhood in the center from the city.

Rio was chosen to be the first city outside of New York to host a fashion show by the brand, due to the energy, optimism and “joy of living” that emanate from it, but it is also a commitment to expand the brand in Latin America.

The house founded by the Venezuelan designer, who handed over the creative reins a few years ago to Wes Gordon, was carried away by the magic and color of the Rio tropics, which were reflected in garments full of life such as gigantic tight-fitting blouses in sarong-like skirts, which were the starting point of the Resort 2024 collection.

White polka dots or pepas stood out in shirts inspired by men’s fashion and in dresses of all lengths, for gala or cocktail parties, visibly comfortable that rotated in green, red and black complemented by hats with huge brims.

According to the brand’s explanation, the collection is made up of pieces that “blur the lines between casual and elegant, day and night,” to make a garment suitable for any occasion.

For the night, the volume increased in the pieces, with a “precise tailoring” that gave air to tulle and light fabrics that were seen in mini and maxi models on the catwalk.

She highlighted a sequin-embellished rainbow ruffled skirt and minidress “trimmed in lake blue, kiwi green and papaya orange.”

Also orchids, present throughout the collection, in delicate embroidery and watercolor prints on organza.

At the show, Gordon also paid a special tribute to Brazilian Roberto Burle Marx, with a two-piece suit made with hundreds of layers of hand-cut tulle, in undulating black and white waves, like those that dress the iconic Copacabana boardwalk and that were devised by the renowned Brazilian landscape designer.
